Description

If you picture a greenhouse the way an English gardening book draws one, this is that greenhouse. The Retro Victorian’s half-boarded design — narrow 14″ glass panes above, decorative aluminum panels below — gives it a traditional, period-accurate character that standard all-glass Victorians can’t quite match.

It’s still every bit a Janssens: rigid 17-gauge aluminum framing, tempered glass, and tight-seal construction, made in Belgium and backed by a 15-year limited warranty. And with 6’7″ sidewalls, it’s a tall, comfortable space to work, grow, and linger in.

The Half-Boarded Look

The Retro Victorian wears its history on its walls. Narrow 14″ glass panes line the upper half in the tight rhythm of a period conservatory, while decorative aluminum panels ground the lower half — the “half-boarded” style that defined classic English glasshouses.

The included roof ridge décor finishes the silhouette against the sky. And if you have a specific vision, additional panel designs are available on special order.

Built Like Every Janssens

The traditional look sits on thoroughly solid bones: a 17-gauge aluminum frame with an electrostatically applied finish for even, lasting coverage.

The integrated 4″ base frame gives the structure a clean, solid connection to its foundation — so the greenhouse that looks like it’s stood for a century is built to actually last that way.

Clear Glass. Sealed Tight.

The glazing runs in full-length panels with no overlaps — no horizontal breaks to collect dust or grime, so the glass stays cleaner and the views stay clear.

Rubber seals throughout cut drafts and rattling, with a practical bonus: if a panel ever needs replacing, it comes out and goes back in easily.

Airflow That Keeps It Comfortable

Warm air rises out through the roof windows — half open automatically on temperature-sensitive wax openers, half by spindle openers you control — while the top-hanging side windows pull fresh air in, even in the rain. Together they keep a natural cross-breeze moving, with no electricity required.

On hot, dry days, the included misting system adds another layer of comfort for you and your plants — it connects to a standard garden hose, no plumbing needed.

A Proper Front Door

The double hinged doors swing open wide — a real entrance for carrying pots, furniture, or a wheelbarrow through — and the closers pull them gently shut behind you or hold the door open.

Placement is flexible, with multiple install locations, so the entry can face your path, patio, or the view you want walking in.

Add-Ons & Upgrades: Make it your own

Shelving

Add a full-length seed tray shelf, narrow top shelf, or slatted shelving to keep tools and plants organized—and create an easy workspace without eating up floor space.

Drop Door Kit (for stem wall installs)

Made for raised installs so your entry stays clean and comfortable—ideal when you’re building up on a stem wall (up to ~30″)

Q&As

What foundation do I need?

All Janssens greenhouses require a proper foundation despite the strong base frame because glass greenhouse is heavy. A concrete slab or a concrete footing will provide the most solid, long-lasting base. The key is that your foundation is level, square, and well-draining—even small twists can affect door operation and panel fit.

You have to cement the foundation into the footer for the perfect stability. Do not set concrete in the corners until the entire greenhouse frame is complete, level, and square! Please, have a look at the manual or this assembly video for the Royal Victorians. They illustrate how it’s done correctly.

Helpful guides:

Do the roof vent openers require electricity?

No. They are wax-cylinder openers, which expand and contract with temperature to open/close the vent—so there’s no wiring and no power required.

Are There any accessories I should add?

We always recommend adding an exhaust fan because greenhouses can heat up very quickly in direct sunlight—even on mild days. If you plan to use the greenhouse in winter, you may need a heater as well.

How do the other metal panels look like?

Have a look at the gallery – there’re plain panels and panels with a cross.

How Does Curbside Delivery Work?

Freight delivery drops your crate at the curb/end of driveway. Typically, you’ll unload the contents with the driver and the crate remains on the truck. If you have a forklift or tractor with long forks, you may be able to lower the whole crate using the liftgate. Plan for 2–3 people to help.

Tip: Make sure the truck can access your driveway and you have a clear staging area ready.
